Help commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Catalpa rescue at the John Boyle O’Reilly Interpretive Walk and Monument with a walking tour tomorrow - Saturday, 21 March. 🍀150 years ago, a group of Irish political prisoners – sent to WA as convicts on life sentences for treason against the British Government – escaped from Fremantle prison following elaborate planning by sympathisers to their cause, including Captain George Anthony of the Catalpa. The great-grandson of the Catalpa’s captain, Mr Jim Ryan, is hosting a free guided walk to share about the daring voyage and rescue.📍John Boyle O’Reilly Interpretive Walk and Monument is located in the Leschenault Peninsula Conservation Park, only 10 minutes from Australind and 20 minutes from Bunbury.🚶Bring comfortable walking shoes, a hat and water. This event is supported by the Bunbury Museum and Heritage Centre as part of St Patrick’s Day celebrations.https://harveyregion.com.au/event/catalpa-rescue-guided-walk/
