The Harvey Region features some stunning public artworks, all created by local artists or community groups, just waiting to be discovered! Featured below is a list of these artworks and where to find them.

TOWN ENTRY STATEMENTS

You can find these unique works at the entrances to Harvey, Binningup, Brunswick Junction, Clifton Park, Cookernup, Myalup, Yarloop. Other mosaics can be seen at the Stirling Cottage Gardens and the Australind Shopping Centre.

• Binningup Beach Entrance
  This mosaic shows that fishing and boating are two favourite activities for locals and tourists alike. The $39,000 sculpture of a fishing boat hull, resting on a base of stainless steel, is composed of 300 clay fish, hand-carved and hand-glazed in colours changing from yellow to gold. Completed 2007.
• Clifton Park Entrance
  The Kangaroo Paw was chosen as the entrance statement for Clifton Park because it is native to the Shire. Artist Anthea said it is a fitting memorial to the late Deb Blake and her enthusiasm for rejuvenating wildflowers in the area. Completed 2003.
• Cookernup Entrance - Riverdale Road, Cookernup.
  This 3.6 x 2.7m mosaic depicts the tree-lined streets of Cookernup in all the colours of the four seasons. It reflects on the nature surrounding the community depicting trees, frogs, swamp hens and wood. Created in the shape of a cut Jarrah tree trunk with rings representing years of growth. Completed 2010.
• Myalup Beach Entrance
  Local artist, Anthea, remembers swimming here as a child and was very wary about the mysterious element beneath the waves. This mural deciphers this and the different breeds of fish found at Myalup, Herring, Tailor and Whiting. Colours of blue display the ocean depths. Completed 2005.
• Harvey Town Entry Statement - Uduc Road, Harvey.
  Inspired by the shape of the diversion and Harvey’s agricultural and heritage background.
  Completed 2002.
• Yarloop Town Entrance - Johnston Road just off the South Western Highway
  Designed by Celestin Hutchinson in consultation with the Yarloop Townscape Strategy Working Group. Constructed with rammed earth and a detailed mosaic design. The design depicts the town's rich timber and rail history with a steam train as its feature winding through Jarrah forests. Funded by the Alcoa Yarloop Townscape Fund. Completed in 2011.

AUSTRALIND

• Leschenault Leisure Centre, Australind
  This is where you will find this mosaic, “Where Ordinary becomes Extraordinary”. Completed 1997.
• Australind Senior High School, Australind
  This 9-metre mosaic was made by Anthea and the Australind students in the representation of the school's status as a "Sister School to Japan". Consisting of Japanese and Australian symbols and 400 handmade tiles, this mosaic gives the impression of patterns in water, expressing the vast water between the two countries coming together in peace, harmony and tranquillity. Completed 2007.
• Australind Senior High School, Australind
  This administration building mosaic was inspired by the theme of school life. Talented Year 8 and 9 students assisted Anthea Ward in the completion of the artwork. Completed 2004.

HARVEY

• Take Your Seat - Concrete Sofa
  Harvey's Concrete Sofa is located near the Uduc Road supermarket. Working with schools, individuals and groups in the area, Anthea created a series of postage stamps that celebrate the people, flowers, animals, homes and businesses of the area. It’s all about what’s happening in Harvey today. Completed 2000. This is one of 9 concrete sofa's that was part of a project. (Other sofa locations include: Kwinana, Rockingham, Mandurah, Pinjarra, Dwellingup, Waroona, Yarloop and Bunbury.)

• A Breath of Fresh Air (Shire of Harvey Logo)
  Designed by Denise Mercer, an Australind student, this artwork situated in the gardens of the Harvey Tourist Precinct, is a colourful two-metre mosaic reflecting the diversity of the Harvey Shire.
• Harvey Vision - Mainstreet Mural
  A Harvey Mainstreet project brings colour and messages of historical and cultural significance into the main street of Harvey. Located in the centre of town, Harvey Vision celebrates who we are, by exploring our unique history and highlighting some of the things that are important to us as a community. The images, animals and people portrayed in these panels have all been drawn from the local area. Special care has been taken to represent details of the local species of flora. Each section of the mural draws comparisons between the old and new ways of doing things, reflecting the progression of these industries that still play such an important part in the local economy. Each panel is 6m long and 2m high and the paintings are acrylic with some mosaic sections. Local Artist ‘Anthea’ started the mural in 2000 and completed it in 2010; each section took 3 to 4 months to complete and the total cost was $25,000. Four Harvey Mainstreet Murals were Completed in 2002 after 2 years. The first panel depicts Harvey's early settlement and timber industry featuring the cedar colours of greens, browns and yellows. The second focuses on the dairy and beef industries, the third features Harvey's citrus, water, irrigation, horticultural and viticultural industries. Each panel is 6m long and 2m high and painted in acrylic with some mosaic sections.
